Short break to Ljubljana, Tallinn or Vilnius

Anyone been to any of these for a short break? Looking to go for three nights somewhere in June with young adult children. We like a little bit of sightseeing, chilling in cafes, nice food, walking tours, etc. Any recommendations on which would be best or advice about any of them please.

Been to Llubljana and Tallin.

Both Are great short breaks.

Ljubljana is more twee and pretty. A couple of hours away us Lake Bohinj is beautiful with sandy shores and a cable car up the mountains for a stunning view.

In Tallin I went to the KGB museum. It's in a hotel and was so interesting. Also did a ferry crossing day return to Helskinski.

Both are good for all these. I did Ljubljana in summer and Tallin at Twixmas so hard to compare.

Tallinn is great. As well as the KGB museum you can "pay your respects" at the Russian embassy, the outside of which is worth seeing.

Not especially cheap, though - normal Eurozone prices, more like Germany or France than "Eastern Europe". We stayed here which was lovely.

Been to Tallinn several times in the past and love it. It’s pretty and tons of nice cafes and restaurants. And great for shopping.

I’ve also been to Tallinn many many years ago and really liked it. I would also recommend a day trip to Helsinki as well like a PP.

We have been to Ljubljana, as part of a wider Slovenia trip in 2022, felt like 24 hours was long enough to see the city, but if you can get to Skocjan caves or Predjama castle, either by car hire or a tour, then you can easily fill your time. Lake Bohinj/Bled are also options as someone else mentioned. Public transport not that great for getting around Slovenia in my experience. I went to Tallinn with the husband a long time ago, we came from Helsinki, it was nice but full of cruise boat passengers in June/July during our visit. I haven't been to Vilnius but it is on my list, but all flights seem to go from London.

I've been to Tallinn and Ljubljana and Tallinn is beautiful and fascinating but I would say Ljubljana is the perfect weekend destination:

  • Arrive Friday
  • See the city on Saturday (it really is small enough)
  • Bus to Lake Bled Sunday (1hr journey and book in advance as they sell out)
  • Home Monday

We went to Tallinn one winter. We keep saying we must go back. A trip out to the folk museum, a bit like St Fagans in Cardiff, with old buildings .

Estonian chocolate is very good.
