How much would you pay for 7 nights in the Balearic Islands, self catering? (You and an almost 2 yr old)

Everywhere I have checked has been a lot more expensive than I expected!

Unless we jet off next week, I'm looking around over £1500! Is this expensive or is it just me? This is through budget airlines so is as cheap as I can get it!

In contrast, for a few hundred extra I can fly to the Caribbean, same time but with British airways!

Am I missing something? Ideally I wanted to take my almost 2 year old away, somewhere with a short flight time as I use to get travel sick (but I don't know about as an adult as I last flew when I was 11!) So I wanted to stay a bit safe but I'm finding the further long haul flights/ holidays are somehow working out to be better value.

Ideally I don't want to spend thousands going to somewhere like Spain in a self catering room where I will still have to spend a few extra hundred on groceries and any extras also.

Are these prices normal for this type of holiday? Should I suck it up and pay that price or keep looking?

1 adult and 1 toddler?

NCTDN · 04/05/2025 15:40

If so then jet2 have holidays from £406 total not I’ve no idea when you can go and where you want to fly from. Jet2 include luggage in that price and if you sign up to their app you get discounts.

Yeah me and my toddler

What dates? Jet2 are giving free child places as under 2. I’m happy to search as I’m not going away myself and missing the hunt Grin

Tropicaliyes · 04/05/2025 17:16

@NCTDN yeah when I checked specifically for the end of may ideally or when it starts getting a bit warmer (hence not wanting to go so soon) and also from stansted on jet2 but even when I select the very begining of peak it's over a thousand!

Are you choosing Whitsun week? If so prices will be mega inflated as school holidays

LadyDanburysHat · 04/05/2025 17:20

The Balearics are already pretty warm. I'm just back from Majorca and it was 25c. If you avoid half term at the end of May you should still be able to get deals.

Tropicaliyes · 04/05/2025 17:21

@NCTDN sorry I didn't see the other post until it was too late. When I spoke to jet2 they actually said the free child spaces are only if there are two accompanying adults which is disappointing because they still make it look like kids are free until you compare it to other package sites and they are all around the same price without free kids🤦🏽‍♀️. So I'm looking for early peak just as the weather is warm enough for my little one to go to the beach and experience the water, ideally not too far from the airport (I will get a private transfer if it's longer than 30 mins by coach) and no other requirements just that it needs to be self catering and not a long flight from here.

@Jmaho what is that?
@LadyDanburysHat warm enough to go into the sea?

OP posts:
LadyDanburysHat · 04/05/2025 17:23

@Tropicaliyes there were people swimming in the sea when I was there. I didn't go in the sea as I was more on a city break and just visited the beach briefly. The Mediterranean is never a hot sea though.

Jmaho · 04/05/2025 17:23

It's what we call May half term so my children break up Friday 23rd May and go back Monday 2nd June

CaptainAwkward · 04/05/2025 17:26

Have a look on Holiday Pirates, they normally collate bargain holidays

Jmaho · 04/05/2025 17:27

I'm not sure where you're going wrong as I've just been on Jet 2 website and there are dozens of holidays for well below £600 from Stansted for one adult one child to the Balearics

Avoid the 2 weeks that fall end May into June as prices are inflated for school half term.

You need to remember that you will have a supplement factored into the pricing for being 1 adult, so try and find double rooms as will be less of a hit. TUI help offset that a bit by having a £100 discount at checkout for solo parents too

NCTDN · 04/05/2025 17:31

Jet2 say for one parent and a child under 2, the child goes free.

Tropicaliyes · 04/05/2025 17:31

@CaptainAwkward now this price is kind of what I was thinking but a different date and was willing to spend more! Thanks for this, will search through it properly

There’s a sale on for more of a discount if you book by 5 May. If you go for wc16 may there’s great prices but then the following two weeks it will go up quite a lot due to school holidays. This is an example of the total price but def sign up to jet2 for the offers.

Okay so look, this shows the price pp is £473 and even though the other addition is my son which would be under 2 at this point, he isn't free, the total cost comes to £946 which is two adult ticket prices. Anyway this is the cheapest I have seen for around this time.

@NCTDN I wanted to avoid may if possible

Not sure where you need to fly from but below is easyjet. Can PicFort is lovely. Have added prices for other airports as well.

I think this is due to under occupancy. I had the same problem when taking my DD away alone. It was actually cheaper for me, my Mum and my DD to go away together and share a hotel room or apartment. It's shocking.

titchy · 04/05/2025 19:28

Half board £800 8 June from Stansted. Exagon park hotel, Cala D’Or. Jet2. There’s loads - are you sorting by lowest price?

This is an example of what I’ve just found in menorca. Total price £554.
It depends what facilities you want though.

But that says one infant and yours says one child.
