Santorini - Oia

Going to Santorini in July and staying down the quiet end in Perissa. Want to do Oia early morning before it's too busy. Any recommendations for breakfast with a view? Thanks

You’ll struggle, maybe a hotel somewhere. The first bus will get you there around 7.30am by which time you will have a minimum 30 minute wait to get “the” photo op. A walk around the streets while it’s quiet afterwards is a better way to spend your time than eating breakfast.

By 10.30 the throngs will have descended and you’ll be wanting to leave. There’s a basic but decent cafe near the bus stop. Nice omelettes, watch in amazement as coachload after coachload of cruise excursions arrive. Bonkers

Also, you won’t find anywhere “quiet” on Santorini. Perissa isn’t quiet, you need to hop to the other islands for that.

Sorry should have said we're getting a driver to take us there so can go as early as we want. I know it's not a quiet island I just want to be there before chaos descends.

I mean you’ll struggle to get breakfast any earlier than the buses start arriving so even if you get there at 7am it’s the same scenario. Chaos starts at around 9.30am

We did exactly this in 2022! We left peressia by car at 8.30am and got to oia at 9ish. The cab driver said come back 1. We thought no way that’s early! But he insisted we would have seen it all and will want to head back. He was right. It was plenty of time to see oia and it was absolutely heaving at lunchtime. It’s expensive so we didn’t have breakfast. But we stoop mid morning for coffee and ice cream. It was a lovely morning but oh my the instagrammers are something else. They really don’t care how long they stand to get the perfect picture. The cruise ships all dock and encase.

That's good to know thanks. Did you get a can easily from Perissa? I heard they are expensive anyway so was looking at one of the luxury transfer people instead as figured may as well have a nice car if it's that expensive!

The hotel booked it for us. It was a people carrier brand new black Mercedes. It was very luxurious. We had two teenagers that were even impressed. I think it was about 100 euro return.

We went to Perissa last September it was lovely but I wouldn’t go peak season. We went to Oia to see the sunset (2 buses). My god it was heaving couldn’t imagine going mid Summer. Needless to say the sunset was amazing. Be warned it’s very expensive in Oia one restaurant we tried to book for dinner had a minimum price you could spend which was ridiculously expensive! It’s instagram capital there!

And it’s volcanic sand so very gritty and hot. We are off to kefalonia this year to search for golden beaches. Pleased we visited Santorini but would only go once.

I went to Santorini last week …
must have been a quiet day when we went! No heaving crowds. We caught the local bus from Santorini town to Apia, about 11am. Took about half an hour from 2 euros each.
Oia itself was ok, nothing soecial. I wouldn’t rush back.
