Would you rather a basic two week holiday or a good quality one week trip?

Looking at going away and can either afford to two weeks in Spain this summer at a basic hotel or one week at a nice airbnb and eating at fancy restaurants in Barbados in January.

What’s better?

One week definitely!

Two weeks for us.

I’ve done a few basic holidays, some have been crackers and others pants. If you do basic just pick carefully. Say eurocamp, cheap flights and plenty to do that’s free. I’d prefer 9/10 days in a medium level holiday or a one week luxury. Part of the fun is planning and looking forwards to it.

The one you really want to do. There's nothing objectively ‘better’ about either, only what you prefer. I’d hate both, for instance.

I find that I spend the first few days of a fortnight's holiday winding down from work. And the last few winding back up again. There is a sweet-spot in the middle where I am totally relaxed (to the extent of not being what sure which day it is!)
That doesn't happen in a seven-day holiday.

1 week away and 1 week chilling at home before returning to work.

TranceNation · 01/05/2025 20:03

Yep I'd go with one week away followed by a chilled out week after.

I get bored and twitchy by day 10 wherever I go and want to come home, so I'd plump for one week.

I think I would enjoy both those holidays so really depends which country you fancy visiting most and whether you can wait until January for a holiday!

Two weeks for me! So long as it's warm and sunny I would rather be away than at home.

'Chilling' being the operative word - who wants a week at home in January?

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 01/05/2025 20:53

2 weeks for me. Basic is fine as long as it's clean. How much time will.you spend in the room anyway? For us it's literally a place to shower, sleep and get ready for an evening out. Also Barbados is one hell of a flight and time difference for 1 week

I would do one week Spain or Portugal in the summer in the basic hotel or an airB&b and then a further similar break next February or Easter. I know that wasn’t one of your options !
