Would you pay £1000 for 5 nights self catering?

Have found a lovely but pretty basic airbnb. It’s an apartment in a posh house, so has use of lovely gardens and big pool. It’s in a very nice part of Cornwall in school hols. It’s £200 a night.

Train would cost us £100 each to get there. DP thinks I’m crazy to want to spend £1,200 for two people to go self catering to Cornwall for 5 nights.

Thoughts?

That's what it costs these days

Is the pool heated?
And would ye use it a lot

Why did ye not decide to go for a hotel

@Pinkdreams

once you pay for breakfast you might as well stay in a hotel and someone makes your bed … it’s a lovely luxury!

I'm paying £1000. for an Airbnb south coast sea front 2 bed ground floor apartment 6 nights but only 2 going in Sept.

Well, we all like different types of holidays, but I wouldn't spend that much in the UK for self catering as i could travel abroard for less.
The last time I went on holiday to Cornwall My DCs were little and I found the cost extortionate compared to other parts of the UK, I remember coming home from that holiday and pricing up an all inclusive for the 4 of us abroard and realised it would have been cheaper.
I've recently priced up a trip to Paris for 4 nights for 2 people in a gorgeous B&B with a couple of trips thrown in, and transport comes to about 600.

It sounds nice and probably what you need to pay if you want to go to Cornwall.

We've just paid a similar amount for 5 nights in Mallorca B&B incl flights etc. Before everything went up, we'd get a week for about £900.

But I don't count the abomination that hotels call bed making as a luxury and I'd much rather they didn't bother.

iamnotalemon · 30/04/2025 19:08

I’d rather go abroad for that price!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 30/04/2025 19:20

It wouldn't cost much more to go to an hotel, have breakfast included, & not have to bother with cleaning the place.
And a city break in Europe could be about the same price.

LavenderFields7 · 30/04/2025 19:20

I paid the same for a week for 2 people, half board in Lanzarote. I think your nuts to spend that in this country.

WTF do you mean ?

Just leave the DND sign up if it's a problem.

It sounds just like somewhere we stayed in Fowey. It was fab.

Tripthelightfantastical · 15/06/2025 14:59

Im considering paying £1400 for a week in the Lake District in early September, only two of us but I love the house. I do think it's extortionate though.

It would be too much for me I think. How will you get there? Petrol from me to Cornwall return would be at least another £120. For £1120 id be able to get five nights all inclusive overseas I reckon.

Drive. I just love the location but it is a lot, I agree.
