Holiday paid for but husband cannot take the time off

I have booked flight tickets, accommodation and car rental for 1 week for myself, DH and DS who is 6 years old. Only today I found out that my husband's holidays have been rejected as someone else in his team is already on leave then. I thought everything was sorted from his side, but apparently it was not.
What would you do? Not going on holiday, or still go with your child?

Why wasnt the time off booked first? I would cancel

KnickerlessParsons · 30/04/2025 00:04

Can you change the dates? If not, I think I’d go anyway.

Macey9 · 30/04/2025 00:05

Oh no! I’m assuming everything is non refundable?

If you can rearrange with minimal loss, I would do this, as I assume you’ll have a better time going together. If not, go with your child and enjoy x

Definitely go, unless you're able to get a refund on everything. However, would going mean your husband can't go on holiday at all? If it does, then I would cancel and forfeit the refund, so you can holiday as a family.

That is a tricky situation!

I voted "Yes".

I’d still go if it meant the money was lost but I’d be nervous of driving so I’d have to amend the car hire I think.

On the assumption that you and DH discussed it, and leave was apparently booked before the holiday was paid for, I'd say go.

If that wasn't the case, then maybe not.

Or if DH told you it was all sorted, and then you found out it wasn't, then still go.

I never book a holiday until I've had my leave dates confirmed by work. Did your DH tell you that he had the dates confirmed off before you booked, or did you take a punt?
