Two Economy Holidays vs One Business Class Holiday

If you were me, mid 20s, not super well travelled, but very tall for a woman, would you do?

A) Two economy return long haul flights and cheaper hotels; or
B) One business class long haul return and 4/5* hotels

Effectively the choice is one very comfortable holiday vs two cheaper trips.

A - even though I swore I’d chose B! The price of business class is just too much, I couldn’t justify it to myself and I tall with a hip problem.

LittleLabrador · 29/04/2025 12:45

More trips every time for me but then I am short. My husband is 6 foot 4 though and just books an aisle seat or extra legroom on an economy flight. He was fine in just an aisle seat even on a ten hour flight- he just walked around a lot. I think he would have been better with the leg room but he didn’t want to pay extra.

BassesAreBest · 29/04/2025 12:45

I would now go for B, but in my mid 20s would (and did!) go for A every time. I’m not super-tall, though, so might pay for extra legroom economy seats in your position.

DH is 6’3 and we could afford business but never ever do as IMO (and his) it’s a waste of money. Much rather have two trips.

mackawhack · 29/04/2025 15:32

What is super tall? Above 6ft 2?

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 29/04/2025 17:50

Depends how long is "long haul" ? 6, 12 ?

Is there an option for Premium Economy? Usually very good value & nowhere near as dear as B.C.

MoreChocPls · 29/04/2025 17:53

Dependant on the airline. Business class on Kazak Air (?!) will be hugely different to business class with Quantas. Also, depends on flight duration. 6 hours x 2 or 14 hours business…?

Workingmumlife1 · 29/04/2025 17:54

B

now early 40’s and enjoy luxury and wish we had done it pre kids as well

Overtheatlantic · 29/04/2025 17:56

At 25 I’d go on the cheap. Unless you’re going to Australia or Japan, somewhere long haul.

ShanghaiDiva · 29/04/2025 17:57

When I was mid 20s -two trips. Now it’s business class and one, especially if it’s a night flight.

Mirrorxxx · 29/04/2025 18:03

B for me

PurBal · 29/04/2025 18:20

B. Getting there is part of the holiday IMO.

amylou8 · 29/04/2025 18:32

B would have to be of bucket list proportions to win out over A.

RobinEllacotStrike · 29/04/2025 18:41

DC & I flew long haul in economy recently. We were dreaming about flying business class but when we worked out the difference in price, we decided we’d rather fly economy & keep the ££.

if you think the flight in economy will be difficult why not treat yourself to a couple of nights in a fancy hotel at your destination?

countrygirl99 · 29/04/2025 19:07

A for me and I'm old. But it probably depends if you are looking for a long haul fly and flop or if you want to pack in experiences. I'd rather save my money for activities and good restaurants by using clean but more basic accommodation than stay in a flashy hotel.

Els1e · 29/04/2025 19:18

In my mid 20's it would have been A. Now 62 and having done a lot of travelling, it would be B.

DecafDodger · 29/04/2025 19:31

in my 20s definitely A, just book extra legroom. Also considering business is usually more than twice as expensive, for the same money you can do eco flights and still a decent hotel.

evtheria · 29/04/2025 19:32

A, even though I’d really love a luxury holiday.

DrivingandInsurance · 29/04/2025 19:36

One trip in business class and 4/5 star hotel.

Junaluma · 29/04/2025 22:09

B, for sure. Quality, not quantity. I swear I would never fly economy on a flight longer than 5 hours anymore. Get yourself an airline credit card and start saving those points!

DecafDodger · 30/04/2025 05:45

In my 20s, I would sleep at airports and take whatever weird connections by train-plane-automobile just to see the world, it was fabulous. Save the business class for later when you actually need it for comfort.
