Hi I’m just wondering if any one has had an experience with this my sons unfortunately had an accident and at the moment can’t go on our family holiday so I’ve taken my self and him off while the rest of the family go I’m just curious if any one has just paid for flights and been able to add them back on with the hotel instead of through the travel agents since we already have the rooms and paid for them hope this makes sense
thanks

You need to take out travel insurance when you book to cover you for things like this. It’s not just for the week or two you’re on holiday. You can’t take out a policy now and expect it to refund on an accident he had before you had the policy!

That’s not what I was asking at all I know that and I wouldn’t expect that all I wanted to know was if he is able to go in the end could I just book him back on to our room through the hotel

Here's what I think you are saying (but please correct me if I'm wrong):

  • You are a family of two adults and at least two children.
  • You booked a package holiday for July that involved flights and a hotel, perhaps with two rooms, maybe three if you have more than 2 children.
  • Your son got injured.
  • You cancelled your holiday and your son's holiday, and got refunds for the corresponding flights and accommodation (presumably you cancelled one room our of however many you had booked, since there are two fewer people travelling).
  • You now want to be able to fly out a few days later with DS and join the family at the same hotel.

Have I got that right?

In that case, yes, you ought to be able to book the relevant number of days with the hotel, either directly through their website or via Booking dot com or whoever. The only problem might be if the hotel has an exclusive deal with a tour operator (our favourite hotel in Majorca can't be booked online any more because they sold 100% of their rooms to a Swedish operator who only sells it as part of a package), but that is not too common.

When you book, if there is an "additional information" space on the form, put something like "We will be joining the Smith party who have reserved with TUI, reservation number 123456, arrival date 4 July 2025" so the hotel know what's going on and can accommodate you close together.

However, July is peak season. So you probably need to decide quite quickly.

If you knew that you’d already have travel insurance!!
