Anyone been to Split?

If so, whereabouts did you stay? In the centre or in one of the little towns/villages close by? And did you like it? If you stayed in somewhere outside of Split itself, were there restaurants, shops etc in walking distance?
We’ll be booking a villa or apartment so it’s more the specific area I’m asking around rather than hotel recommendations- thanks.

I didn't like Split.
I loved Trogir.
Stayed in a fab Air BnB in Kastel Novi

We stayed in an airbnb 5 minutes from the old town. It was wonderful and the old town has a lovely atmosphere in the evening.

Trogir and Brac are beautiful.

Thanks all - I’ve read a few old threads too - and there does seem to be a bit of a divide (a Split?!) between those who love it and those who aren’t so keen.
