Driving to lake Garda from Uk

Taking the ferry to Calais in August for a trip to lake Garda. Happy to buy a vignette for the swiss motorways to speed the journey. Where is good cheapish to stop mid or 2/3rds of the way 2 adults and 2 young teens ( not camping)
Many thanks in advance.

We stayed at this gorgeous guesthouse https://www.la-cerisaie.net/ The duplex rooms comfortably sleep 4 and it’s got an outdoor pool.

We did that journey and stayed in Chamonix for the night which worked well. We had a long drive from Calais and a shorter drive to Lake Garda, but enough time to go to the top of Mont Blanc!

Chamonix is worth considering.

However, have you driven such distances before?. How long is your holiday?.

I would seriously consider instead flying to either Venice or Milan and drive from either to Lake Garda if you have two weeks or less.

You could stop halfway in Strasbourg, either at a naice place in the centre of town if budget allows, or at one of the cheap French system-built motel chains (Ibis Budget, Campanile, etc) on the outskirts if not. You could have a full day there before moving on. Bonus is a trip on the city tram over to Germany.

We did it from Brussels a couple of years ago (so similar distance) - we went via France and Mont Blanc. We stopped at the Novotel at Macon Nord on the way out and Chalons Sur Saone on the way back. If going the other way - Colmar is lovely.

Weekends in early August tend to be very busy in the alpine passes and tunnels South with long queues as European school holidays peak then, likewise middle weekends Northwards.
