Off the beaten track / active summer holiday

Hello,

Last year my family went to Italy and it was a disaster with my kids. Too hot, too fractious, visiting historical cities and towns was a waste of time. Not to be repeated.

This year we want to do something different.

Would like to travel somewhere where we can have the pool or beach but can also be active. Love mountains, love cycling but not too full on.

European dry summer heat is too much but Asian wet season heat is fine, did Costa Rica in August and that was perfect.

Would consider anywhere but only want to spend a max of £10k all in.

DDs are 12 and 15

Any ideas?

Way under your budget, and in Europe but we had a great holiday with Alpine Elements which our teens loved. The heat was fine. Loads of activities included in the cost plus the multi pass gave free access to pedestrian lifts and the swimming pool

We loved Zell am See in Austria last summer - hotel with the free summer card gives free access to cable cars, buses, lido, natural attractions.

As you liked Costa Rica, then try Sri Lanka or Borneo. Much more economical than CR but similar opportunities for adventure, wildlife and culture.

There are a couple of recent threads here looking at similar.

My DC loved Cape Town, they were slightly younger than your DC when we went.

Ohrid lake in North Macedonia might be the perfect choice for you and your family.

We had a great active holiday in the Pyrenees a couple of years ago - lots of activities, lake (or pool) swimming, and less touristy than eg the Alps. We booked through the Adventure Creators and would recommend.
we also had another good holiday in Morzine in the summer - self
booked this time.

Another vote for Zell am Zee. We went last summer with DC 12 and 15.

@Dad22DDs booked independently.
Flights to Salzburg.
Bus from right outside airport to Zell am See.
Hotel booked on booking.com - make sure they mention the summer card.
We had 8 nights in Zell and 4 in Salzburg.
