Corfu car hire?

I’ve booked a last minute holiday to Corfu for me and DS (12). We’re going on Monday for 4 nights and staying in Spyridon. I’m wondering should I hire a car and drive from the airport or get a taxi? I’m used to driving when we go away but usually DH would be there to navigate. Anyone any experience of driving in Corfu?

I didn't enjoy driving in north corfu. The roads are quite narrow with steep cliffs at the side of the road. Car hire was also expensive there too.

If that's on the north coast then it's quite a long drive, I'd say easily an hour. I wouldn't particularly want to do it without someone navigating, and also depends what time you arrive (light or dark?).
I enjoy driving on Corfu, getting out of the city from the airport is a bit tricky but the rest is relatively easy.

That is, unless you hate neverending switchbacks 🤪

We've also had fantastic service and relatively cheap rentals there, the most recent rental was the friendliest and easiest rental we've ever had.

We've just come back from a week in Spyridon (are you going to Mareblue by any chance?!) I think it very much depends at what time you will be landing. We have always hired from the airport, but as we weren't landing until after midnight ( and later it turns out due to the strike!) we decided to go with a transfer as even though DH is confident driving abroad, we didn't fancy the mountain roads to an unfamiliar destination in the dark! If you do decide to drive from the airport, I'd suggest following the coastal road to Spyridon rather than going over the mountains!

Forgot to add that we did hire whilst we there. They delivered to the resort and we returned to the airport once we were confident that we knew where we were going!

I haven’t driven in Corfu but DH has a few times. We used a local company called star cars, fully insured and paid cash up front.

the roads in Corfu are very mountainous. It doesn’t bother DH but I’m always a little terrified. They can also be pretty bumpy and full of giant pot holes if you stray off the main roads. If that doesn’t worry you then go for it. We’ve never had issues driving in Corfu but it’s not for the faint hearted.

Many thanks for the replies, we decided not to hire a car. As we’re only here for 4 days we’re happy to stay put in the hotel.

yes we’re at Mareblue!
