Vietnam in July with teens

Has anyone done this kind of trip? Thinking of starting in Hanoi, boat trip in Halong Bay then work our way down to Hoi An stopping in one or two places. Where would you recommend? Was the weather ok? We don’t mind rain as long as it’s not constant!
Hotels seem very cheap - are they too good to be true or is it actually that affordable?

Thanks!

We went pre-kids and opted for Phong Nha as our stop between Hanoi and Hoi An. It was really fun and I could see teens enjoying it- we stayed at the Phong Nha farmstay and did all the activities through them. Ninh Binh also looked great though- so many choices! I would love to go back to Vietnam when my kids are older.

That looks like a great place to stay! Can I ask how you got there please? I'm guessing a train from Hanoi to Dong Hoi?

Yes I'm pretty sure that's what we did- we arranged through the hotel to have a driver pick us up at the Dong Hoi station (and the reverse when we left). Although we didn't do this, I think they also had an option for a DMZ tour that ended in Hue that some fellow travellers took upon departure.

Overall I found the tourism infrastructure in Vietnam easy to navigate- even the "cheap" hotels we stayed in provided good service and helped to arrange whatever we needed.

It will be very hot. That's one of the hottest and most humid times of year.

@Holidayaddict123 Did you go?

Did you go and what itinerary did you do? I'm planning a July Vietnam trip with teens too.

Did you go to Ha long bay or Cat ba bay? What's the attraction? Obviously we will be tourists but it looks just too.... touristy? And dirty. We do plan to spend 5 days or so at a resort hotel so there will be a relaxing element to our trip. Maybe relaxing on the boat on a ha long bay cruise is the attraction?
