First time in Mallorca

Hello, we have just booked a holiday to Majorca in July (myself, DH, DD17, DS14, DS13) and are very excited and looking for suggestions.

We will have a car and are keen to explore off the beaten track if possible. We are not bothered by nightlife / water parks but will definitely want to kayak/ snorkel / walk and try local food and tapas etc.

If anyone has any great ideas and must-do's, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!

@OldGothsFadeToGrey I live Olivar market - we go to Majorca most years and always have 2 nights in Palma - either end or beginning - it’s one of my very favourite city’s-

They won’t be able to drive to Formentor in July, no car access except residents, buses, emergency services and cyclists in the summer months. Can get the bus from Pollensa though.

Another vote for Caves of Drach (and also Ham which I prefer).

Yes to the train from Palma to Soller and the wooden train to the port.

In Palma Olivar market is a wonderful food market.

Es Verger Alaro, Sa Foradada or go to restaurant Orient (in the tiny village of Orient) for a really special meal.

This is correct, but the bus comes up from Alcudia and it is often full by the time it gets to Puerto Pollensa. (It's not clear if OP is going to Pollensa town or the port - there's quite a way between them. The bus to Formentor only goes through the port.)

Another vote for Caves of Drach (and also Ham which I prefer).

If OP has a car then Campanet caves are both closer to (Puerto) Pollensa than either of the above, and better, with freedom to explore a bit. Drach in particular feels like a conveyor belt in high season.

All of these are great, but Sa Foradada requires either a 2 mile each-way hike with 900ft of elevation gain on the return leg (take at least 2 litres of water in July), or a boat from Puerto Soller. It's worth it for the views but if you choose to walk you'll need another drink in the bar at the top when you've finished!

I assumed Pollensa town.

Sa Foradada is very, very worth it though!

If they are feeling adventurous and it’s not too hot it’s a nice walk to Formentor from PP ….

I still prefer Ham. Campanet is good but Hams just has something else. Expect we will be doing the dinos this year too.

Formentor beach maybe, about 18km return, but it would add another 20km to go on from there to the lighthouse and back. And it's going to be above 30° every day in July... 😬

Love Mallorca too. We enjoyed Artê too, little town in the hills. It has a ok market one day a week and lovely restaurants. Alcudia old town is very lovely. We stayed on that same coast last year, early July, and didn’t get bitten at all. So many lovely beaches everywhere really.

You have to go to Soller, and have an orange ice cream

The almond ice cream is even better.

I’m not planning on walking but I would be quite happy with 30 degrees (currently looking at the rain)
