Foldable car seats - Easyjet

Evening all! Wondered if I could tap into the hive mind on this one. Have 2 boys 10 and 5 and flying with easyJet to mainland Europe in a couple of months. Whilst we are there we will be driving a lot in a hire car and in a long car-based airport transfer. It’s been a nightmare trying to arrange car seats for the boys so I was looking to take ones with us on our flights.

Have looked at some of the foldable ones, which look great in principle but I’m not sure on easyJet allowing them on as cabin luggage? Has anyone else managed to take car seats for older kids with them? Thanks so much!

You can def check in a car seat for free for the 5 yr old so that could be a normal high back booster. Is the 10 yr old 150cm?

No the folding maxi cosi type are too big for hand luggage. But you can take with easy yet for free for any ages. They just need to be dropped with checked luggage

Why can’t the car hire company get seats sorted for you?

Lots of people (including me!) don't like using car hire company seats because they are usually cheap, poor quality seats and you cannot guarantee they have been looked after by previous hirers / not already been in an acccident.

You should just check with easyJet what age they allow free equipment to.

We just used the becool foldy for our 5 year old. Checked into hold luggage as part of the 2 free items. We kept the box for it and transported it in its box, with some clothes etc stuffed in around it for extra padding and "free" luggage allowance! Then also used a custom made bag to fit the box from Midwest Luggage to make it easier to carry (£30)

Edited to add that we flew easyJet
