We would like to go to Malta this summer, family of 4 with teens and I have no idea which area would be good for us?

We spend a lot of time in the sea, snorkelling, beaches. We like boat trips and maybe some watersports.

From my research St Julian’s is looking like a good option?

We have only stayed in hotels but looking on Expedia there are some apartments that look good also especially now the kids are older and we don’t use the hotel facilities much.

I would recommend the DB Seabank Resort in Mellieha Bay, one of the few sandy beaches in the island with loads of watersports. They have large family rooms with sliding doors to separate the two rooms.
I think St Julian’s is a rougher area if I remember rightly, more of a nightclub goers resort.

Wouldnt Gozo be better for beach life?

(Malta's sister island, a v short ferry hop away)

Avoid St Julians. If you love snorkelling, I would recommend spending some time on Gozo as well, any location, they are all nice and easy to get there by ferry. Melleiha Bay is nice although can't comment on hotels as we always self cater and that side is easier access to Gozo and Comino (highlight is a boat trip to Comino with snorkelling off the boat). The East of Malta is also nice and close to Peter's Pool etc.

Definitely avoid St Julians. It’s a proper hen / stag do area. The beaches were nothing special.
We stayed in a gorgeous hotel which was a relief because I was very disappointed with Malta on the whole.
