Two of us with son who'll be 18 months, june rhis year. Pre baby we've been to La Rochelle a couple of times and liked strolling about, beach nearby for an hour or so, cafes, parks etc

we'd ideally like access to a pool for him and a play area so were thinking of maybe a eurocamp or similar. However we are not people who would normally go camping and i'm not sure if it would work out feeling a bit crammed near other families/be noisy etc? We're not very social on holidays and i am suspicious we might like the idea more than the event. Is it possible to get something with a bit of outside space and privacy?

Our first holiday with DS was Canvas in Spain, so Euro camp type. We had a mobile home rather than a tent which worked well. We liked having space inside and out, and being able to be flexible with meals. The only thing I didn't think through was the fact that there are only showers, and he'd only ever had baths! A couple of days of drama made it clear he wasn't having a shower so we bought a baby bath in town - so pack one to take with you if you drive, if not driving pack an inflatable to use.
French campsites generally have larger pitched than Spanish or Italian, and the Euro camp website will give you an idea of how much space you'll have. We really like Les Mouettes in Carantac as you get a decent amount space, just avoid in high season unless you enjoy the sound of Dutch teenagers shrieking all night!

@Whatatodo79 We went to Trinite Sur Mer in Brittany. Plenty of beach space (7 beaches within easy reach) and we just used the pool on site. Had a caravan. Years ago now but plenty to see and do in the area for adults! We didn’t mix much and greatly preferred seeing what we wanted to in the area. You don’t hang around the site if you don’t want to.

In my experience the Siblu parks tend to be less crowded with more outdoor space - though most of the French Eurocamps we have been to have been fine. The big italian parks were a bit more full on, vans closer together etc, but also lots of facilities. If you can go outside school holidays it will be quieter.

It depends on the campsite and it depends on what level of accommodation you book. Les Jardins de La Pascalinette is one of the better ones in terms of privacy. The Privilege mobile homes feel very secluded and you can go even more luxurious with ones which have a private, fenced hot tub or pool.
These ones at Sequoia Park were also very private. https://www.sandaya.co.uk/our-campsites/sequoia-parc/rental-units/16

Hello! We took our DC to french campsites from the age of 6 months, and had wonderful holidays. We are quite unsociable as well on holidays and like our own space, and have tended to steer clear of the really large resorts campsites. I recommend having a look at the castels chain, as they tend to have pools and great facilities but a slightly more relaxed feel. Also June is a great time to go away with preschoolers,.as you mainly avoid the school hols, lovely long days and as it is towards the start of the season the staff tend to me more enthusiastic and the facilities well maintained.

We took ours to St Cast at that age. It’s a really nice town in Brittany. Camping le Chatelet. I think for some people it would be too quiet but it suited us.
