Munich restaurant recommendations

Off for a few days in Munich with teenager. Looking for good places to eat - German food, anything from budget to mid range. Staying on the southern edge of the old town, but happy to travel around further afield. Just want good food and nice atmosphere, some local specialities, nothing fancy.

Any suggestions?

https://www.augustinerkeller.de/de is very traditional and lively with local food. Ratskeller under the town hall is also nice but more touristy. Viktualienmarkt is great for lunch.

Augustiner Keller

Der Augustiner-Keller ist ein traditionelles bayerisches Wirtshaus mit Biergarten im Herzen Münchens.

We went to Wirtshaus in der Au (near the Deutsches Museum) when we last visited a few years ago, it was recommended by our relatives who were living in Munich for a few months.

Steinheil 16 does the best schnitzel and a lovely German variation of pasta. Huge portions - perfect for a hungry teen!
Irmi is a little bit fancy but has something on the menu for everyone.
Zum Alten Markt is quaint and friendly. You feel like you’ve gone back in time.

First reply is the one.

Agree that first reply nails it. The Hofbrauhaus is also quite an experience. It is enormous! The Ratskeller also has an huge courtyard that you wouldn't realise was there.

These look perfect, thank you!!

@Forgottenmyphone would Irmi suit for a birthday meal for an older teen? Looking for something a bit of a step up from beer halls for an upcoming trip - something nice, but not up to Michelin star level. If anyone has any recommendations (apologies for the hijack OP).
