Where is still busy in October/November?

Looking to book a 2 week holiday which will fall over October half term but not sure where will still be busy, if anywhere? We went to Greece last year but the hotel was half closed by the end of our trip, animation team for the kids finished a few days before we left, staff in the kids club all leaving and had completely zoned out.

Is there anywhere that is still summer holiday style fun that time of year? With temps ideally high 20s?

We went to Egypt for October half term once - busy resort with entertainment still running (although it wasn’t the best quality and rather dated) and the weather was lovely - mid to high 20s

The Canaries, in fact it's often busier during the winter months because it gets such good weather without being long haul. My preference is Gran Canaria as I hate wind and find the other islands windy. I'd recommend Meloneras, Mogan or Maspalomas.

The canaries would be your best bet in terms of weather. Lots of lovely resorts.

Anywhere in the Middle East

The Canaries and possibly the Costa del Sol or the Algarve.

My experience with Greece then is, depends on the budget. I've been to one 5 star that, though winding down, still had a lot on in the October half term. And a 3 star corner cutter that... didn't.

But agree with PPs you're likely safest somewhere the season isn't imminently finishing. If you want a full set of facilities the Canaries might be a better bet.

Which week is your half term? If it's this year, you'll probably have more choices if it's the 'earlier' one iyswim.

Canary islands, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey

fussychica · 08/04/2025 18:16

Canaries, most of Southern Spain.

Thanks everyone. I did think canaries would be my best bet, mainly based on the fact that it seems to be the most expensive 😂! We did 5* Greece last year so it wasn't that the hotel was rubbish it was just that the pool was ICY cold which takes half the fun away from the kids and the beaches were quite stony (kids didn't care about that but I did).

Will have a look at turkey too, we're going in a few weeks and the hotels seem really good and it's more reasonably priced in October.

Yeah the pool was def cold even in the 5 star! I found the sea pleasantly warm though.

Friends weren't impressed with Turkey either, closing down as well in the last week of October.

We found that Cyprus had still lots going on, I can't say anything about kids club but the hotel was full, restaurants all open and plenty to do and see.

If you have 2 weeks you could consider going long haul like Mauritius.

UAE or Oman are good options...the pools and the sea will be warm and resorts open all year round. Ras al Khaimah is usually cheaper than Dubai and doesn't take long to get to.
