Beach destination near Pisa with teens

Looking for intel on somewhere nice in August. We’re considering flying into Pisa with teens 16 and 17. Would like some beach but suspect would be super crowded at this time of year. Is there anywhere a bit quieter that’s transfer distance from the airport? Doesn’t have to be beachy but would like to be near water

I think your best option is to rent a car if you are comfortable to drive? Public beaches are crazy busy in august and public transport poor. Parking close to the beach may be a challenge in summer. Pisa town is madly hot during the summer, you d be better off renting a nice villa or flat out of town . Alternatively you could look at a nice hotel maybe in Liguria Cinque Terre or more towards the areas around Quercianella.

Porto Venere or Levanto

Liguria is lovely, as mentioned by a pp. About 2 hours drive away from Pisa.

Lerici or Portovenere are lovely and you can do boat trips to Cinque Terre from there. Forte de Marmi, Carrara and Massa have huge beach areas but not as pretty. We have a couple of lovely holidays in Sestri Levante. Doable by train from Pisa - and easy to visit towns up and down the coast - Cinque Terre again and Portofino, Rapallo etc.
