Car hire from Venice - how to do it?

Has anyone hired a car from Venice? We’re driving to Verona but not sure how you hire the car. Wondering if better to take the train then hire a car? After Verona we’re heading to Lake Garda so we do want to have a car. Any tips?

You can’t hire a car from Venice itself, you have to go across to the mainland and hire from there. I did it years ago so can’t remember the details, but it was easy enough.

You can easily get the bus from Verona to Lake Garda. You don't need a car.

I would be getting the train, it's fairly straightforward. Just don't forget to validate your tickets in Italy!

you can hire a car in Venice. Piazzale Roma. It’s basically at the end of the bridge to Mestre. It’s pretty central.

You can hire cars easily at Venice airport

Just take the train, it’s an hour and super easy.

I'd take the train from Venice to Verona, and hire a car in Verona if you fancy seeing the lakes for example.

Oh shoot, I should have read your OP properly! You ARE going to Garda. It's lovely, enjoy. Be nice to have a car there, you might fancy going up as far as Bolzano to see the magnificent mountains there. But you can be without a car if you just want to see around Lake Garda. There's a boat that goes from Riva del Garda. It criss crosses the lake and goes to all the towns like Limone, Malcesine, Sirmione, Peschiera etc. You can get on and off at each town.
