How much cash to take to Krakow and do you need to let your bank know you’ll be abroad ?

We’re there Monday to Friday with early outbound and late homebound flights so 5 days. I’ve heard it’s very much a card based society but wondered if we needed cash for anything ? Tia.

I didn't use cash once while there, used my debit card with no issue

If you have your location enabled in your banking app there is no need these days to inform the bank that you are abroad

You probably won't need cash.

Card depends on the bank. I've a travel card with Halifax, don't need to inform them when abroad and also have a Natwest card, with Natwest there is a form you fill online saying where you're going and when.

Ah thanks everyone. Will pop in today. Not been abroad since before Covid 😞

I used my Wise card, much better rates. But no cash needed.

If you need cash, get it from a local ATM (in the town, not the airport). Whatever you do, don't change Sterling cash into Złoty at an airport exchange kiosk (at either end).

everywhere takes card pretty much. except if you want to buy the special bread things from the street sellers. we took out a small amount of cash for bread and tips. also one place we went for breakfast was cash only.

Cash for public toilets! I’d take a small amount just incase tbh

BitOutOfPractice · 04/04/2025 07:32

I’d get £20 worth out at a local atm

We took a bit of cash but didn't need to. We used Starling card for pretty much everything.
We're back today. We had a brilliant trip, hope you do too.

You don’t need to tell the bank now.
I use mine abroad all the time.
Make sure to pay in local currency on the card machine.
