The Highlands are absolutely massive.

Where do you want to be near?

Honeysuckle16 · 30/03/2025 12:22

Where do you want to be and what would you like to do?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/03/2025 12:34

Do you want to spend most of your time in and around your accommodation or will you just be using it as a place to sleep? Do you want to be based in a town/village or out in the country? Where are you travelling from? I assume you will have a car. What ages are the various members of the party? Do you want to get out walking or cycling, or just drive around beauty spots with the odd stop for coffee, lunch, shopping? What time of year? How bothered would you be by poor weather and how do you feel about midges?

The highlands are just over 10,000 sq miles so need more information to help you.

Highlands are huge OP. It’ll take you several hours to drive from one end to the other. Do you have an idea of where you want to visit?

Raera · 30/03/2025 13:34

And when?

Upperroom · 30/03/2025 22:44

Oh gosh, sorry - I was going to give more detail and forgot to post! We had amazingly good weather about two years ago in august (didn’t really see many midges?!) in Drumnadrochit. I know the weather is unusual! We stayed in a backpackers as it was just a short trip. But we’d love to make more of a trip. Maybe 2 weeks towards end of July. Beauty, walks, yes food (have hungry teens) historical sites. Will have a car, Being on a loch would be lovely but would also like walking distance to food so we don’t have to use the car every day. beautiful views would be great. Tia

The Highland Club (converted Monastary) in Fort Augustus is a magical place to stay in the Highlands, with swimming pool, sauna, tennis, gym and many more facilities. It has loads of 1 and 2 bed apartments, although not many, but some 3 bedroomed options. The converted Monastary is in a tranquil setting on the southern shore of Loch Ness, and has the best view of the Loch!

There is also an amazing AirBnB on the way up, in a castle near Stirling:
