Hoping to go to Cyprus or Majorca/Minorca with DS 16 and his friend, looked at hotels but just too expensive, plus two 16 year olds in same room as us would be awkward! Now thinking apartment with 2 rooms but access to hotel facilities, any ideas ? Have looked online but not finding much TIA

Lots in Menorca here.

‘Aparthotel’ is what you want to search for near your chosen location. We’re staying in one in Portugal this summer - best of both worlds!

What kind of budget do you have? Luxury Holiday Apartments in Paphos | Elysia Park Resort sounds like it would fit what you were looking for.

We've stayed in loads of Aparthotels in Majorca and Menorca. You'd only need a one bedroom apartment as there are twin sofa beds that convert in the lounge. Have a look at Protur Safari Park Hotel and Protur Vista Badia.

There’s a Minura hotel in Menorca that might suit your needs. Walking distance to Cala Galdana bay - beautiful!!!

We had a 2 bedroom apartment at Malama Beach Villa Hotel, and used the hotel for meals/entertainment.

Thank you everybody! I'm off to look at all of these now, Mumsnet is a godsend 😊

If you stay here you MUST do the walk along the part of the Camí de Cavalls trail that goes to Cala Macarella/Macarelleta and then onto Cala en Turqueta. It is one of the most beautiful walks I've ever done and I'd love to walk it again.

Places with "Aparthotel" in the name tend not to have all the facilities of a hotel. For example, there may not be an on-site restaurant.

If you go to Booking dot com and choose two adults and two 16yo children in one room, it will show you multi-bed rooms and also apartment-style accommodation within regular hotels. For example (with random dates) see this (I chose the dates completely at random) where the first selections are a double bed and a sofa bed, but as you scroll down you get to suites with two double beds and a sofa.

However, given that the difference between a 2-bed apartment and two double/twin rooms is basically one bathroom, I wouldn't expect such a setup to be vastly cheaper than two rooms. In fact it might cost more since there might be a premium on family togetherness. Yield management software is pretty clever these days and will be doing the pricing for the hotel's benefit; if that happens to also be for your benefit then great, but don't expect miraculous savings.

Places I've stayed with DC that I think fit your bill:

Aliathon Paphos all inclusive lots and lots to do and food is great, but we prefer now to go out
Aliathon Paphos self catering lovely - you don't get all the AI features though
Avanti holiday village Paphos only 1 bed apartment but kids in lounge - have been 3 times - including with a 16yo
Paphos Gardens might want to check if it's been updated

Stayed there when the DC were toddlers and it was excellent, may look at it again this year if it's good for teenagers.

@MustDust we are going this summer with friends who have teens. I think they liked the fact they can wander off from the hotel easily? Stuff in the local area rather than a big resort in the middle of nowhere.
