Where to go from Alicante Airport

Hi folks,
we are meeting family from the US at Alicante airport, hiring cars and aiming to visit nice places. Has anyone been anywhere really special or quirky, or interesting round that area that I can suggest we visit?
theyre quite cultural, vegan, like finer things etc.

Elche is nice.

Moraira and Denia are nice seaside towns. If you want to venture away from the coast El Castell de Guadelest is a lovely place to visit

I second Elche, it’s beautiful!! Alicante as a city is also beautiful and well worth a visit. Calpe is another lovely town just half hour up the coast.

Its only just over an hour (easy drive) to Murcia, which is also a nice (inland) small city, and then Cartagena is maybe 20 minutes further

Mojacar is lovely. Lovely beaches and beach restaurants at Mojacar Playa and Mojacar Pueblo is a beautiful old town, lovely restaurants and shops for an evening wander.

Nearby Garrucha is a lovely traditional Spanish seaside resort - lots of Spanish holiday makers.

if they are interested in buying pottery, a visit to Nijar is a must.
