Neilson Mums

We’ve been to Neilson Messini twice. It was brilliant first time as our son was 13 and rules meant that he needed signing in and out. Last year was a bit of a nightmare with him being 14 as the large group of teenagers would go off site to local bars about a mile away. There was a bit of a bullying culture with parents being made to feel guilty if they insisted on a reasonable time back. ‘ everyone else is allowed out til midnight ….’
some kids were being carried home drunk. Many went in the sea in the dark. Knackered parents with own activity programme having to stay up til midnight to see child in safe.
its put me right off. I appreciate holidays are all about being a bit feral but it just made it absolutely exhausting. So my question is, are all the resorts similar? Looking at Sardinia. Advised against Croatia due to the teens going into town. Need a more closed off resort where they don’t leave and just enjoy the facilities

We were in messini beach last July. My ds made great friends, he was allowed to go out in the evening with the other teens, but we had a strict rule that he was back in the hotel grounds by 10, and in his room (interconnected to ours) by 10:30. We tracked him on his phone to keep an eye on exactly where he was. But he's pretty sensible. I know some of the teens were getting into trouble though.

We did Mark Warner the year before, that was definitely calmer!

I am just looking in to taking my dc to a Neilson holiday and had no idea this was a thing for the older teens? Is it part of the teen clubs they join? Where is becomes accepted that they go offsite together and get drunk?

my dc and 14 and 16 and we have never been to a Neilson before. Do the teens tend to go with other families they know already? Or is it literally friends that they make during the activities that they go off site with?

sorrybi am completely clueless, we have done very few package holiday with dc and mostly do cottage uk breaks so I am just trying to get my head around if this is something we would enjoy. My dc do know how to sail so this is the main reason I was thinking they would enjoy

Apologies, I know this is a zombie thread but just wondered if op might see it as it’s been not all that long since was posted

@Bordersandballs as I said my teen did not get into trouble or get drunk or anything. But we did allow him to walk outside the resort and to further down the beach (where it stops being the hotel beach), with his friends he made at the club. We can track him on his phone anyway. Just decide on your rules and make them clear.

My ds didn’t know a single other kid when we got there but he made some great friends through the club, which was a real relief. He’s met up with them several times since in the UK!

Oh that’s a good result. What age was he?
