Where in Spain?!

Bernie23 · 26/03/2025 20:21

Looking for recommendations for somewhere to book in mainland Spain for our summer holidays in July. 2 adults & 2 children (13 &9)
We like relaxed places, not somewhere with high rise buildings or lots of bars with music etc. We liked Corralejo in Fuerteventura as there was a very chilled out feeling about it, but looking somewhere on mainland Spain.
Had thought about Nerja but can’t find hotel / apartment close enough with decent pool.

I stayed in Nerja and it really is fabulous.
We stayed at Hotel Perla Marino . Right on the sea front and a short walk to the main town . Highly recommend it .

We're going to the coast near Seville/ Portugal. I think it is much more Spanish.

In northern Spain (not so hot) there are some surfy areas near Santander.

Bignanna · 26/03/2025 20:44

Puerto de Mazarron for somewhere relatively unspoilt

SingingSands · 26/03/2025 21:06

We used to go to Javea a lot on mainland Spain. Really loved it - not a "high rise" resort, lovely beaches, old town to wander in, lots of nice cafes and restaurants, just an easy holiday. We went when our kids were young but it would be even easier with older kids. We first went as students in the 90s 😊

We've been going to Menorca for the last few years, it's really captivated us. So beautiful and chilled.

samarrange · 26/03/2025 21:07

Not mainland, but Puerto Pollensa or Puerto Soller in Majorca would probably fit the bill.

Clearinguptheclutter · 26/03/2025 21:12

We are going to zahara de los atunes on the costa de la luz. Been before, years ago, was lovely. A fair few Northern Europeans around (not many Brits) but very Spanish mostly.

Estepona. My favourite.

MrsAvocet · 26/03/2025 21:22

Another vote for Estepona. It's still definitely a holiday resort but a bit quieter and less developed than most of the rest of the Costa del Sol. It's more family orientated restaurants than noisy nightclubs, the beach is nice and the town centre is very picturesque.

We've been to Sitges which is lovely (don't stay near the marina though, it's a looooong way from the main town although it looks lovely!). Close enough to Barcelona to be able to get the train in for the day, and also there's a waterpark about 40 minutes drive in the other direction. Decent flights into both Barcelona and Reus airports 😊.
We love Corralejo too, just got back from our first trip there since before Covid and had the best chilled time

Lla Franc or Calella de Palafrugell on the Costa Brava. Absolutely beautiful. Little coves and white sand beaches. Not a High rise in sight. Fly to Girona or Barcelona.

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 27/03/2025 09:46

2nd Estepona, it's gorgeous. Also Tarifa round the coast is beautiful, cute old town and fab beach (but a bit windier as on Atlantic coast)

Forgottenmyphone · 27/03/2025 10:08

Another vote for Estepona. Also, Tarifa has very similar vibes to Corralejo.

Alcossebre

fussychica · 27/03/2025 10:16

Mojacar on the Costa Almeria might suit. Excellent beaches and coastal walks. The pueblo up on the hill is very pretty with stunning views. Very laid back, generally low rise. Flights to Almeria, Murcia or Alicante

Bernie23 · 27/03/2025 17:54

Could you tell me your favourite place in Menorca?

OP posts:
twilightermummy · 27/03/2025 17:59

I'm between Menorca, Majorca and mainland Spain at the minute, with similar aged children. I'm watching this thread with interest 🙂

Bernie23 · 27/03/2025 18:13

Estepona looks nice but still not sure. Is it alot of English tourists or more mixed?
Have anyone been to Onas Marinas hotel in Nerja with children?

Alcossebre

Yes lovely place! Very Spanish and a gorgeous beach.

JackieGoodman · 27/03/2025 20:40

Onas Marinas looks like its in an urbanisation @Bernie23 and Nerja v lively, bars etc imo.
We loved Punta Prima in Menorca, small and friendly and not far from Mahon.
Cambrils (south of Barcelona) is lovely and can do Barcelona and Tarragona for sightseeing plus Port Aventura at Salou if kids are interested.

chocolatelover91 · 27/03/2025 20:42

Benalmadina! Not sure if that's spelled correctly, but myself and my husband went there back in 2019. Bloody lovely!

We do want somewhere with an atmosphere which we liked about Nerja. Just not the accommodation we’re after.

What is the best part to stay in Javea? We’ve two girls (13&9) .
Thank you
