Would you be put off going to the US, especially states like Florida and Texas now Trump is in power?

Yes, I’ve already cancelled my holiday to Disneyworld this year.

Harassedmum123 · 23/03/2025 08:06

No I wouldn’t. He is hugely popular over in the States as we realised on our visit to Florida last year. We are going to Florida again in two weeks time for Easter.

namechangeGOT · 23/03/2025 08:27

No, we’re going on Saturday. I’m very much looking forward to it.

Jibberjabba · 23/03/2025 08:46

My DH has mentioned it as a holiday option this year but I am not that enthusiastic

We are going to Colorado and Wyoming. One blue and one red. Had paid a huge deposit and paid the very large balance a few weeks ago. Canceling wasn’t an option. Keeping our mouths closed is! We are visiting national parks and I do support those staff keeping their jobs. As we are nearly 70, time isn’t on our side and we are catching up from going nowhere in the Covid years. So this one trip is going to happen. After that - other trips are planned but none to USA.

Sunpeace · 23/03/2025 08:52

We have changed our plans and won't be visiting at the moment although we have family in FLA.

TizerorFizz · 23/03/2025 08:54

Is family supporting Trump? If they are, that’s difficult!

princesspadam · 23/03/2025 08:58

We’re going to Texas, New Orleans & Memphis in the summer. I can’t imagine changing plans because of who is in power!

unless I’m missing something 🤔

PrettayGood · 23/03/2025 09:00

Yes. We go every year and Trump won’t stop us 🤷‍♀️

dudsville · 23/03/2025 09:01

I was there a few weeks ago, in quite red areas, and no one spoke with me about politics. Whether or not you want to give them your custom is another thing altogether. I didn't have a choice about that.

RaspberryRipple2 · 23/03/2025 09:02

No, we are going next year, and will be going unless the FCO ever advised against travel which is vanishingly unlikely. Florida has always been a republican state so nothing much has changed there, eg last time we went there were anti-abortion billboards up by the side of the road.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 23/03/2025 09:04

Only
Thing that would
Stop
Me
Is cost

Dh goes for work and says the US is very very expensive now

Longma · 23/03/2025 09:05

It wouldn’t stop me visiting, especially if visiting somewhere like Disneyworld and the other parks.
it’s not the type of holiday where you really get involved in the country’s culture and what’s going in, or spend time chatting to locals long enough to find their politics out, etc.
There will be many people at DW, including cast and visitors, who totally oppose Trump and his ideologies.

But then I travel to various places around the world and won’t always agree with their political stance.

BigDahliaFan · 23/03/2025 09:35

Have trump supporters in dh’s extended family in US. I’ve muted them on FB as it was getting annoying. Was at a work thing with a lot of Americans last month just tried not to talk politics unless someone brought it up.

it wouldn’t stop me going to the States though. But as PP said it’s really expensive now!

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 23/03/2025 09:45

If I would already booked I would still go. I was hoping to go this year but was only at the planning stage so have decided against it. In my eyes the US is no longer an ally to the UK nor the EU and whilst I know it won’t make much difference I choose not to give them any of my money at the moment. No judgement of others who take a different view.

Roseshavethorns · 23/03/2025 09:54

We normally go to the US a couple of times a year. I am definitely not going this year.
I see visiting and putting my money directly in to the US economy as supporting what the government there is doing. I just can't do that.

TizerorFizz · 23/03/2025 11:53

The USA is more expensive than it was but petrol is still reasonable.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/03/2025 17:36

I don't know about Florida, we've only ever been to California, but at the moment DH won't consider going back even to there. I know we speak the same language, but culturally it feels worlds apart at the moment.

TizerorFizz · 23/03/2025 19:25

Not everyone voted for Trump!! In California they didn’t as a majority. It’s a bit daft to say it’s culturally worlds apart when it’s Republicans (and not all of them!) who are most likely to be objectionable but you won’t be seeking them out. Any more than we are.
