Solo adult + dog + 10y child - where to holiday?!

Any tips for places to go with a young spaniel and 10yo?

  • 3-4h within the south east (so Dorset, Norfolk, cotswolds, into Devon)
  • We'll likely be camping (got our trailer tent)
  • Early July (TERM TIME! I KNOW! Yes we're allowed)
  • Wants; quiet beaches perhaps, places we can go with our dog that aren't full of other dogs, because that's just not fun for us, just want to be able to relax whilst still solo parenting dog & child!

Worried all the usual touristy places like Dorset the beaches will be busy and dogs everywhere. Think I need to be more out of the rat-race, otherwise it isn't a holiday! Any ideas welcome!

Sidmouth, Beer, Lyme Regis area. Lots of camping. Lovely bit of coast.

This was where I was thinking! Thank you. Quite a lot of the main beaches don't allow dogs in summer, but there are others nearby that do, was just worried they'd still be busy with dog hooning around and driving my dog bonkers, but maybe not!

We had a great dog friendly holiday in Norfolk - most of cafes etc were dog friendly but there were plenty of dogs around!!

East Devon/West Dorset will be quieter than other parts of Devon, and as it's not school holidays, won't be horrendously busy. I used to live in East Devon and it's glorious. If you want to get away from the beach, go inland towards the pebblebed heaths just west of Sidmouth. They are lovely.

We have a week in Norfolk camping every year with the kids & dog (was dogs) either May half term or August. We either camp at Kelling Heath or Breck farm at Weybourne. Lots of walks, beach days at West Runton, (has a fab dog friendly side which if you a little bit further is quiet) picnic & rock pools. Weybourne, Sheringham for walks, food etc. we take a seal trip from Morston Quay which the dog loves. We often park at West Runton & walk the clifftop walk to Sheringham have a mooch, fish & chips then walk back along the beach. My Dc are 10,9, 7 & 5 & Spaniels (although now just one spaniel). I did it solo last year in August & it was lovely (tiring).

This sounds perfect! Thank you! How do you manage showers when camping solo with dogs?! We’ll take his crate but worried he’ll get hot if he’s in the trailer tent 🤔

@MomentumLiving My eldest will sit outside the block with him, whilst I go in with the younger DC’s. They take it in turns to hold his lead when we wash up too. There are lots of points to tie their leads to outside blocks on both sites.
