After a brutal couple of years I am looking to take a summer break with DS (19) and DD (18).

Their wish list is going to be wildly different to mine!

Them - beach/pool/nightlife/music/shopping

me: peace/scenery/good food/culture/
close to a pretty town

Either all inclusive or SC if near places to eat

open minded on hotel or apartment

budget for 7 days around £5k taking into account food and drink.
looking at early July

ooh lovely big budget! You could go to a city then travel out from it? Spain? Some days in the city, then get a train to the beach or mountains for a day? Barcelona is meant to be nice. With that budget I'd be really tempted by an all-inclusive deal...!

Our dds favorite holiday was aged 19 and 16 in Sorrento. Views, culture and authenticity for us, shopping, young people’s nightlife and pizza/pasta for them. Two-centre in Majorca? Port de Soller for the mum and palma (nova) for the teens element. Can recommend hotels if you wish! Enjoy the planning.

As only going for a week think I’d prefer one base and do a couple of trips out.

Cuba . Stay in Havana . Lovely hotels with pools . Culture coming out of your ears .

I second Sorrento.

Cala D’or Majorca might suit, some nightlife near by but a lovely pretty town as well.

Since you are paying 😎 my suggestion for Majorca would be to stay in Portocolom (authentic fishing village, very quiet, beautiful bay, no football shirts or Full English Breakfast places) and send the DC to Cala d'Or for the evenings. They can take the bus to get there and a taxi (€18–20) to come back. This is the harbour on Street View: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4218774,3.2618334,3a,75y,50.11h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sDwUGkG5N6fVoa-p3eMbp0w!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D0%26panoid%3DDwUGkG5N6fVoa-p3eMbp0w%26yaw%3D50.11375805609423!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDMxNy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

For SC I would recommend (having stayed there) Portomar Apartments https://www.google.com/maps/place/Portomar+Apartments/@39.413507,3.2557646,17.07z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x12965a9c5f559d57:0xd47626a77250e42e!8m2!3d39.4123939!4d3.2615942!16s%2Fg%2F1q69m1n53?entry=ttu&gep=EgoyMDI1MDMxNy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D — they have two-bedroom apartments and there is a full kitchen, so you can cook a meal from scratch, or perhaps more realistically warm up a supermarket lasagne in the (proper) oven. It's a 10-minute walk to the harbour for some lovely fish restaurants, and there are several other places nearer. There is a beach 5 minutes walk away, but if you are prepared to walk all round the bay, the beaches on the east side are where Majorcans go at the weekend — there is a nice grill bar on one of them. (Portocolom is not much of an AI place but you may find something on booking dot com.)

It’s quite difficult to get to Cuba now. No direct flights from the Uk at all.
