Early-Mid May Recs for Europe

Any hotel/location suggestions for a family holiday in the sun for early-May in Europe, please? We usually go to Turkey to AI resorts, but I would like a change of scenery and possibly not stay in an AI resort this time but rent a car and explore local places of interest and dine out. I would like to stick to a 5 star hotel, though with great kids facilities (playgrounds and splash parks, etc).

For the adults (4 of us) very good food is important to us.

Open to Spain (mainland, Balearics or Canaries), Greece, Italy, Morocco or Egypt.

I did Majorca last May, with a car hired and stayed at an AirBnB, it was gorgeous. The villa slept 8 with a pool in a gated small community.

I would pick that over a hotel all day any day, even a 5 star one. Much more relaxed, carrefours nearby and a 15 minute drive into palma for eateries and exploring.

highly recommend! Majorca I find is much cleaner and nicer than mainland Spain.

Sorry the villa slept 12, there was 8 of us. It was perfect.

Alexander Beach Hotel in Crete has great dining but it’s also within an easy walk of local restaurants. Very family friendly and a private sandy beach.
