Long Layover

does anyone have experience of long layover stops in countries with visa requirements?
I am flying to Thailand with Oman Air and have a 15 hour layover in Muscat on the return flight.
I've read that I need a transit visa to leave the airport, are these easy to obtain? Does anyone have experience of this and have any tips?

Do you have a British passport or EU passport? You can stay for up to 14 days without a visa if you hold a British passport.
