Am I right in thinking they’re now going small cabin bag (under the seat only); large cabin for the overhead lockers; and hold?

is this a new thing? You pay to put a case in the overhead locker, now??

Yep you pay to put a large bag/case in the over head locker.

Make sure you measure your bags.

purplepie1 · 19/03/2025 20:48

And don’t try and pay for the cheaper bag when you have a larger bag. They catch you as your boarding and charge you extra

LIZS · 19/03/2025 20:50

The only included bag is the underseat one. Some seat upgrades allow an additional cabin bag.

This has been the case (ha ha) for several years now. A 32-litre bag (45x36x20) that goes under the seat is included in every fare. You have to pay extra if you want to take any other bag, whether that's the overhead locker bag up to 63 litres (56x45x25) or a checked-in suitcase weighing 15, 23, or 32kg.

Sometimes the overhead locker bag is more expensive than a checked-in suitcase, because some people are prepared to pay more in order to not have to queue to drop their bag and then wait at the carousel at the other end.

You can either book the cheapest fare and then add bags a la carte, or you can buy a bundled fare that includes a bag and maybe a seat reservation and/or boarding first and/or fast-track security.

It's all explained very clearly here: https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/cabin-bags

This has been the case for years now.

littlemisspickles · 20/03/2025 06:01

We bought under seat cases specifically for Easy Jet, and have managed short trips with just those. Even 4 nights in the Canaries. Because they are stowed under the seat, you can't stretch your legs at all, but we are all quite short

Flew with them last month, yes you are only allowed one small cabin bag under the seat and you have to pay for large cabin bags that go in the overhead lockers. They were checking overhead lockers on the plane too to make sure it was only large bags in there. Saying that I flew from Manchester and they didn’t check our bag sizes at all and on the way home I had my handbag and small cabin bag and nobody noticed (had put the handbag inside my backpack on the way there) - I wouldn’t risk not paying for bags though obviously

friendlycat · 20/03/2025 10:21

Yes it's been this way for some time now. And as others say they check.

Makebettermen · 20/03/2025 10:27

Yes, the only included bag is the underseat bag, nbut it's bigger with Easyjet than it is for RyanAir. For a weekend I just take the backpack if flying with Easyjet but have to buy extra luggage for RyanAir.

Fordian · 21/03/2025 10:55

Thanks, all. You can tell I don’t fly EasyJet!

I (like lots of passengers) often wear lots of layers when travelling with Ryanair!

Also if you are buying extra baggage (with Ryanair or other airlines) the fees are usually less if you purchase the extra luggage at the time of booking, as post-booking can be slightly more expensive and at the airport high!

BIWI · 21/03/2025 11:22

Also beware - if you have a handbag, that is supposed to fit inside your cabin bag. I got caught with that one recently.

Karatema · 21/03/2025 13:39

If I’m a bit tight on space I use a money belt, that is hidden under my clothes, rather than a handbag.

Winky2024 · 23/03/2025 01:14

@littlemisspickles would you mind sharing which cases you use for under seat easyJet please?

MaybeNotBob · 23/03/2025 13:58

We have one of the ones BIWI has linked which has the option of wheels, and also one of these which has marginally more space as it doesn't have to have room for wheels and handles.
