Where to stay in Loire Atlantique?

We've done lots of holidays in Brittany down as far as Carnac & Vannes last year. This year we are sailing to St Malo having a couple of days in Rennes and then looking at the Loire Atlantique department. La Baule looks too built up for what we like. Ideally somewhere with a few reataurants/bars, doesn't need to be beachy but not too far from the coast, somewhere to base ourselves for a few days. Any ideas please?

A little further south in the Vendee Jard sur Mer is a lovely little town. Marina, nice restaurants. Lots of stretches of beach North of there.

We stayed in Pornic last year. Lovely quiet beaches ( about 5 of them) and a lively port area for restaurants.

Thanks for that suggestion, it looks perfect but just a bit too far for this year. We've talked about Vendee for next year so I'll keep a note of that

I'd not looked at Pornic as too far but it looks like exactly what we're looking for. Off to look at accommodation now!

And really not that far south of the river at all!

Another vote for Pornic, a lovely little town, with a good range of restaurants and a very pretty coastline, and some interesting places nearby for trips.
