Holiday with dp and our kids

Dp and I are looking to take our kids away in the summer.... the where isn't an issue, it's what sort of rooms to look for. I have dd18, ds13 and he has dd 14.

What would you do? I thought a room for dp and I, and then maybe a 1 bedroom type "suite". The girls can share and ds can have a sofa bed? Is that the best way?
Ideally we're looking for self catering as the 13 & 14 year olds are fussy, so that rules out a villa. But maybe we should re-think that.

Surely self catering includes villas?

Unrelated teenagers absolutely shouldn't be expected to share IMO.

If they get along, i don't see why they wouldn't be happy to.

You sound like you're looking at hotels the way you describe the rooms. You'd be better looking at villas, you can probably get one with enough rooms for less than the hotel and perhaps with a private pool. Does the 18 year old want to holiday with you (ours didn't at that age)?

Doseofreality · 19/03/2025 18:03

Villa is the only way at that age. You need the space to stop everyone from getting on each other’s nerves.

Sofa beds can be really uncomfortable for a teen.

I would go self-catering with a 4bed villa.

I’m sure they’ll get over it for a free holiday. Are people really this spoilt these days?

My 20 year old always wants to come with us. I brought up them perhaps not wanting to come and they were really offended. Families are all different.

A villa might be best to meet your needs.

the room combination you describe could work but my only concern would be that if you book two different sorts of rooms they could be quite far apart. That would make your 18 year old kind of responsible for the younger two as I doubt you’d be happy to have a 13 or 14 year old on the other side of the hotel without the 18 year old. So, the options would probably be either two suits or a villa. The hotel we stayed in in Majorca last year had a proper bed with a comfortable mattress in the lounge which would have been fine for a teen to sleep on so sofa beds aren’t all unsuitable but you’d need to be careful.
