Anyone know Atlanta well?

Annoying flight change means we're going to have an extended layover in Atlanta on the way back to the UK from central America this summer. Arriving early evening, don't need to check in for flight home until 4ish the next day. Will have DTDs (13) who have grown up on Gilmore Girls, Young Sheldon, Modern Family etc, so I think will just be really into seeing America in the flesh so to speak...but can anyone recommend somewhere we could spend a few hours, mooch around, maybe a few shops, leisurely lunch (ideally in a proper diner, they'd love that) and still get back in time without stress?

Also, am wondering with the bags, if it makes more sense to stay in a central hotel, so we can access the city easily in the morning, but then need to cart back to the airport, or would you do airport hotel and see if they'd keep the bags for you during the day??

TIA!

You’ll have to drag the bags around anyway as there are no hotels at the international terminal or providing a shuttle service to it. You’d have to use the space train link or a taxi anyway.

May as well taxi or uber into midtown and return to the airport the same way the next day for your flight.

Fox Bros for BBQ and Flying Biscuit for breakfast. The kids will love the menus
