Package / AI - me and a 16 yo boy

I want me and DS to go away for a week just after his GCSEs. Warm, beach, pool, relaxing.

I've never booked AI/package before.
We want a room each. I've had a quick look at TUI and Thomas Cook websites and can't see how to select adjoining rooms or a family suite. Am I missing something?

Or you could get a two bed apartment in a hotel that does AI? I did that in Turkey as I had teenage boys (they are men now)

KnickerlessFlannel · 16/03/2025 21:24

Hi :) I was looking for adjoining rooms and went into TUI - I'd never usually go into an active travel agent but she showed me exactly how to choose what we needed using the website so it was a really helpful discussion.

Yes, that would be fine. I wouldn't know where to start looking though. Any tips?
We usually book AirBnBs and sort everything out ourselves.

I think I might do this. The web is a bit overwhelming when I don't really know what's on offer and thus what I want! Thank you.

It was called the orca and was in Olu Deniz. I think we booked though ‘on the Beacb’ and it had all the room options.

Gran Oasis Resort in Tenerife has 2 bed apartments. It's fab there. Beach is a mile or so away but they do free shuttles

Also Barut B Suites in Turkey are amazing. We had a 1 bed apartment & our dd slept on the sofa bed in the on the lounge. Private section of the beach which was a huge plus for us

Thank you. What site did you use to book?
Many of the sites will not allow me to book a child (under 18) into a room on their own.

What site did you use to book 2 rooms where one allows to book an under 18 in their own room? Or does a family room mean separate rooms for adults and teenagers?

OP posts:
fo2fo · 17/03/2025 09:29

Book a family room, they have two bedrooms and some have two bathrooms

Jet 2 but I rang them. Neither should be a problem as they are not actually proper 2 bed apartments, they are 1 bed with an extra bed in the lounge, although with Gran Oasis it was a proper double bed so just like an extra bedroom. You also get a patio and balcony! It's on 2 floors so plenty of privacy for both of you

Please can you tell me how to select a family room?

Ah maybe forget that - I searched for one room for me and DS sharing and it's still nearly 2 grand each, and that's outside of main school hols.
I can't justify 4 grand for one week.
I think this is why we normally do our own thing....

That’s weird, much less than that when I’m looking. Select one room for the two of you, it brings up the cheapest options for each flight/date combination.
click through that to the actual room selection and it shows you the available rooms on those dates with any supplement for the better room
eg in attached is family room early June for £1979 total.
There are other layout family rooms but none available this week apparently

Thanks for searching. I still can't get it to find me a Family room.
When I entered a much younger child it brought the price down somewhat, but he's 16.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I am not seeing any family rooms.

rosemarble · 17/03/2025 23:41

Oh wait.....found one - in June!

OP posts:
rosemarble · 18/03/2025 09:12

Thanks so much for all the tips.
I've booked for me and DS for a week in Cape Verdi. It's a Tui holiday and I ended up speaking to an agent over the phone after my (rarely used) PayPal account wigged out.

Squeeeee.....I'm so happy I can enable me and DS to have this lazy week in the sun where other people are thinking about meals and clean towels!

OP posts:
rosemarble · 22/04/2025 21:48

...follow up. Tui decided to refurb the hotel we were booked in, and moved us to a different one but with a different spec ie. one rather than two rooms.
They were unable to find anything similar. I wasn't impressed with my very first package holiday experience.
Got my money back and have booked through Jet2 to Lanzarote - a resort where we get a little bungalow. Flight are from a nearer airport which is better.
It may all work out better.

OP posts:
ConnieHeart · 23/04/2025 07:43

Sounds good. Which resort is it please?

mightyducks · 23/04/2025 07:55

HL club playa blanca have 2 bedroom bungalows

rosemarble · 23/04/2025 08:28

mightyducks has it - it's Playa Blanca, but we are Jet2 staying at Hotel Sandos Atlantic Gardens.

It's one bed with sofa bed in the lounge but with Tui mucking me around, availability within my price range limited things a bit.

OP posts:
rosemarble · 08/07/2025 15:05

We are here! Slight miscommunication about the sofa bed, but I’ve just dragged one mattress from the main room (2 singles to make the double) into the living area.
DS is loving the all you can eat.
We are metres from the sea.
