Summer holiday ideas for older primary children? Fun and engaging and maybe active

I feel like I’m a little late to planning our summer holiday this year.

Can anyone recommend anything fun for a family of four? Two children in upper primary.

We love adventure! Any ideas welcome.

In the past we’ve loved Costa Rica, Canada and Switzerland.

I don’t want to spend a fortune this year though!

I’m trying to plan a trip to Borneo for the same time next year

My dd loved the Dordogne at that age - canoeing on the river, castles, pre-historic dwellings, dinosaur park, go ape type things, caves. I just recommended Le Banquet https://lebanquet.com/en/ on another thread.

Alps. Mine loved 2 weeks in Morzine last year. So much to do - rafting, go ape type courses, walks (ok I liked the walks more than they did), bike rides, massive pool, tennis, skating (the day it rained), lake swimming/kayaking/paddleboard, mini golf, parapente, side trips to Evian and Annecy. We went self catering and ate out one meal a day with simple food for the other meal, it didn’t cost a fortune.

Austria is also an option

My DC loved twin center Caribbean holidays at that age, or cruise and stay holidays anywhere.
Or how about Lake Garda?

Have a look at Beekse bergen in the netherlands.

Also Eiftelling and Duinrell are near enough and you could stay at / visit all 3.

Copenhagen is amazing for families.

Or a cruise
