Sicily with young family

Kids 3.5 year old and almost 1 year old.
We have forever wanted to go to Sicily but not sure where the best place would be and suitable for this age.

We are open to other parts of Italy too if that would be more suitable for kids of our age.

any suggestions for Sicily or any other parts of Italy welcomed

The coast would be ok, we found Palermo in summer heat to be dirty, noisey, busy and grimey...but after a few days toured around the coast and it was lovely.

Cefalu or Giardini Naxos so you can visit Taormina but have the beach.

We went to Sardinia when dd was 18 months - gorgeous beaches with warm shallow water.

We went when our kids were a similar age and stayed in an agriturismo. It's a kind of farm stay with just a few bedrooms, often with some animals, playground, pool and a restaurant serving local produce. It was a relaxing place to stay with lots for the kids to do, without having to go to a busy resort.
