7 days in Ireland

I'm planning a week in Ireland with my sister. We plan to fly to Belfast and hire a car.

We are going to pass by Dundalk as part of family tree research and I want to go to Newgrange, but otherwise I'm after some suggestions for where to head to.

I've done Giants Causeway, Dublin and Belfast and a few days on the coast near Wexford but the rest of Ireland is unexplored.

I'm looking for recommendations of which way to head. We are happy to fly back from a different airport if need be.

Head west to Connemara and/or Galway and then fly from Knock airport.

Agree re Galway - I'd head south from Dublin to Newgrange and maybe consider stop off around Malahide or Bray then could take in part of Wicklow mountains and head west to Connemara, Galway and then Westport flying out of Knock - alternatively could head a bit further into Wicklow and go west to Limerick and fly out of Shannon

Ah, beautiful Ireland. My in-laws live on the Cork/Limerick border. Waterford City is lovely plus a trip to Cobh is a must x

If conneamara Galway area the coral beach is amazing (blue sea and white coral beach!). If you’re over Wexford area then before Wexford is Wicklow, glendalough for a beautiful hike and powerscourt for fab views, and a waterfall.

I would echo what those previous posters have said - Galway/Mayo/Sligo/Kerry - anywhere on the West Coast and the Wild Atlantic Way. Donegal is beautiful and the airport there was voted the 3rd best airport view when landing in the world, a few years ago. There is a flight from Dublin to Donegal with Aer Lingus regional if you don't want to drive. West Cork is beautiful too. Along the east coast, Wicklow, Glendalough and Roundwood are gorgeous.

I always say Westport! Beautiful scenery near to Connemara and fab beaches. Can climb croagh Patrick.
Great hotels and restaurants. Wonderful pubs with live music.
