Qatar flights with Avios

Hi there, looking for some pointers - have never bothered collecting Avios before, and normally just lose them when they expire. Silly me!

DH and I now each have Avios of approx 35k with Qatar/BA and 42k with Amex.

I'm looking to book Qatar for March/April 2024: Edinburgh to Singapore, then return Sydney to Edinburgh, which is classed as a multi trip, rather than return.

We both seem to have enough (75,000) for the EDI-SIN leg, so happy to pay for the return in £££. But I have no idea how to do this on either the Qatar or BA website. And how do you book for two people, when you have separate Privelige Club / Executive Club accounts?

From everything I've read online, I need to pounce on the reward flights as soon as they are released, but how do you do that when the outbound and return are four weeks apart?

Absolutely baffled!

The SYD-EDI return would be 90,000 Avios each. Can we buy them somehow rather than pay in £££?

You need to phone BA at midnight the day the flights are released. Think it's 355 days prior or something- check w BA. Their UK office is closed but you can call their US office at that time. I phoned via Skype for free back in Nov however Skype is closing so unsure if you can still do that.

To combine your bookings/points you need to create a household account- quite easy to do via BA website

You can buy avios but boosting your avios is often more efficient cost wise- again look on BA website for more info

Booking complicated flights like this with avios can be a bit of a pain in the arse if I'm honest
