Hi all, my little one is 3 just before Easter and it’s the first time he understands things and we can finally start doing everything on Easter/christmas.

im not from uk so Easter in our country is very different. There are no egg hunts or chocolate eggs etc.

I think British traditions are so cute. Especially for kids and I would love to start it this year. Can someone explain to me why we have Easter Friday, Sunday and Monday? Like do you guys do different things on those days or does it not matter?

I know about the egg hunt but need more info… do you hide little chocolate eggs? Or plastic eggs that you decorate? And what day do you do this on?

is there anything else that people do during Easter? 🐣

thanks a lot ❤️

The long Easter weekend has a bank Holiday either side, Good Friday and Easter Monday. The week leading up to it is Holy Week and there are church services every day for those so inclined.

Chocolate marks the end of Lent and the beginning of feasting and it is Easter Sunday that this should happen.

Hiding eggs in the garden is chocolate ones for us but has to be done quickly with the dog supervised. Some people have a thing about the Easter Bunny who secretly hides eggs like Father Christmas brings presents. Wasn't something my family ever did. I didn't know until I was on Mumsnet that it was a thing. Our eggs were hidden by parents and grandparents, no pretence of a magic bunny. Same as we do now.

We used to have roast lamb on Easter Sunday when I was growing up. Some people make a simnel cake.

Egg decorating is another one. You make a small hole with a pin, blow out the insides and paint the egg.

Good Friday is traditionally the day to eat hot cross buns- I always make them in the morning (I never usually make bread from scratch) and my DCs always helped kneading the dough and piping the crosses on the top.
