Summer holiday with young teen who doesn't like it too hot

Hi all
I've found myself in the position of having a weeks leave in August which is very unusual for us. It's me and a young teen and a 9 year old- Yorkshire based with a car and I'm the sole adult/driver.
My eldest really doesn't like it too hot and my youngest hates being in the car for more than 3 hours at a time.
Both love swimming and don't need slides etc to keep them amused just a basic pool will do.
Wondering whether to

  • completely discount leaving the UK
  • head to Northumberland/Wales etc
  • day trips
Etc Any suggestions welcomed of places and venues you've enjoyed/ thank you

We're W Yorks and love Northumberland but you'll need to get booking now. Lots to do if they're both happy pottering around, beach days, maybe surf school, lots of nice restaurants, Alnwick Castle etc.

Or abroad maybe if your daughter doesn't like it too hot is she ok with the sun but getting herself in the shade with a pool? If so, I'd have a look at jet2 all inclusive from Leeds Bradford should be plenty of deals!

Would agree with Northumberland. NE beaches can be cold, but they are beautiful, you can go surfing/coasteering as well as swimming. If you can't find a holiday complex with a pool (example of one here: villagefarmcottages.co.uk) I think there is a pool at Alnwick leisure centre, also at Morpeth. Visit Alnwick Gardens, Cragside, walk to Dunstanburgh, trip to Beamish if you don't mind a bit of a drive.

Thanks both I'll do some research tonight on all your suggestions.
I know I've left it woefully late so prepared for it to cost me. Childminders have surprised me with a week summer holiday that my ex now suddenly can't cover!

Could you do the Netherlands with the ferry? Not too far to drive at either end. Duinrell or one of the European CPs / Landal / Roompot parks? Zeeland is gorgeous and there are huge sandy beaches between Amsterdam and The Hague.

Darwin Forest has an indoor pool and lots of other activities onsite.

North Europe shouldn't be too hot - what about one of the European centre parcs? They can be a lot cheaper than the English ones.

Ferry to Holland, go to Efteling for a day, and have some fun there?
