Transfer from Ciampino Airport to Rome centre? Advice please

I usually always book package holidays so it is a new one on me having to organise transfers and I'm rather nervous about it - pathetic I know!

Does anyone please have any advice re transfers from Ciampino airport to the the centre of Rome (12.30pm on a Sunday) and return (6pm on a Wednesday).

From reading up on it, it looks like there are 3 options: taxi, which costs approx £150 return (there are 5 of us), bus, which looks cheap but people seem to be saying it is hard to find the stop / bus to return, or train (which also requires a bus to get to the station).

Any advice very gratefully received. Thanks

There were five of us and we caught a bus. Initially it was difficult to navigate but people are helpful and if you ask someone will be able to point you in the right direction. You need to arrive at the main bus station in the centre. We definitely winged it but it was worth it for cost saving alone.

A few years ago (so I don't know if things have changed) we took the Terravision bus from Ciampino Airport to Rome and back again. It was easy and cheap, you could buy tickets online, at a kiosk at the airpot, and I seem to remember you could even buy them on the plane.

The bus stop was no problem to find, the only issue coming back was that Italians don't like to queue the way we Brits do, so it was a bit of a bun fight getting on the bus in Rome, but it was fine.

I usually ask my hotel to arrange a pick up driver. It has been more like 50-80 euros than 150.

iirc uber doesn’t work in Rome, but there’s another app that’s really good.

otherwise the bus and train are both supposed to be fine

There are frequent trains from Ciampino to Roma termini, it's pretty central but if it's not where you need to be then maybe check out the metro and see if you're near a stop. All trains go to/from Termini. When we were in Rome many years ago we found the metro really useful for getting around.

The airport is tiny and the bus to Ciampino train station is right outside the door.

It's probably the smallest airport I've ever been to except little island ones like Isle of Man. On the way back it took me about 5 mins from getting off the bus and through security then I had to wait nearly 3 hours because my flight was delayed. In that time I think 2 other flights took off.

You can buy a combined ticket from a machine for 2.70 pp that covers both the bus and the train to Termini Station in central Rome. Or you can pay cash for the bus and get a separate train ticket.

I got the bus to Termini station.

We took a cab, the rate is fixed. You can also go by bus or train to Termini.
