Holiday in 5 weeks, referred for tests. Insurance?

Such bad timing!
I've had what seems to be a period after a long time of being period free. I spoke to my GP this morning, who's referred my on the 2ww pathway as it's a red flag for cancer. I'm pleased I'm having tests and am not stressing, chances of it being serious are really small.

But, I'm going on holiday in 5 weeks time. All booked and paid for. I have insurance through my back account. When should I tell them? I can either:

Let them know now, pay for an upgrade (no idea if they'll cover it or how much it will cost)

Or

Hope that I am actually seen in the next two weeks, and if so and all is fine, I have no reason to tell them anything. If it's not, I call them at that point.

What should I do?

Do you have the policy terms to confirm that? I was looking for a screenshot of those rather than an assertion that it was the case.

Yes, if you insist. Here is my welcome email which says to tell them about any changes to your health or medical conditions. This is actually quite ambiguous wording, but I took it to mean ‘any new changes to your health OR to the medical conditions you’ve already told us about’ and when I rang to tell them about a new condition that caused me to be signed off work for a bit they said I’d done the right thing.

It is my understanding that if you claim on travel insurance, they will check for medical conditions you failed to tell them about so I for one would not risk this.

I had a similar situation last year. Referred under 2 week wait just under month before we went away (to the USA so was definitely wanting to be insured!).

The appointment came through very quickly and i got results within 2 weeks, all clear. I asked the doctor to make it clear in the letter what it was and it was benign for insurance purposes. But waited and called insurance when i had the results. They were a bit awkward even then to communicate with. But covered it at no extra fee. They work on clear algorithms and diagnosis so calling them saying you've been referred for suspected cancer will cause them panic in their systems or they can't do much about it but note it. Least if you have a diagnosis or the all clear its easier to log it. I'd wait until after the appointment. Good luck. Hope it's nothing and you can enjoy your holiday.

This is my annual policy with a bank. Appreciate OPs maybe different. You must declare any chances to health or medication.

My DM lost out on a bigger pay out for cancellation as she left it too long to tell them my DF was in hospital.

Thought I’d come back and update. I called my insurance provider today as we’re going away st the weekend. I’m not covered for anything related to what the investigations are for, but am covered for everything else. So I’m find with that!
