Suggestions for a solo trip in August ( probably Europe)?

I’m after suggestions for. 4/5 day break in Europe this summer .
This will be my first solo summer holiday without DS who is 18 and off traveling with friends
So that leaves me to plan something for myself !
I like the idea a boutique hotel or apartment in a picturesque seaside location .
I’ve looked at Dubrovnik (my favorite so far ) or Port de Pollensa (Majorca) - nice but accommodation seems expensive .
does anyone have any other ideas or secret locations I love sea swimming and scenic coasts . Possibly Greek islands or mainland Spain
budget is up to 1k inc flights

Estonia. Beautiful Baltic coastline, deserted beaches, lovely Tallin, long days.

Hebrides

I can recommend the Alberto Gelsomino in Kos. It’s a lovely boutique hotel just on the outskirts of the town. It would be somewhere I would happily go as a solo traveller.

I’ve been to Dubrovnik in August and was worried it would be too crowded but it was fine. We stayed about 20 mins bus ride outside it - right by the sea. I was with other people but did quite a lot on my own as they didn’t want to do the same things. Was nice sea swimming and lots to see in Dubrovnik. I really enjoyed walking the walls and the war museums were really interesting. There’s a website you can go on which tells you how many people will be arriving by cruise ship each day so you can try and avoid the busiest days.

Malllorca is ROASTING in Aug. It's called the hot rock for a reason :)

Are you tied to August because of work? Personally I'd avoid anywhere in August due to heat and crowds. But if it can't be avoided choose the end of the month just before schools go back. People tend to go back a few days before terms start so in you go!

It will be hot unless you go somewhere like San Sebastian/Biarritz/St. Jean de Luz (gorgeous spot) or along the coast near Bordeaux. There are some lovely spots on the Eastern side of Spain like Roses, Tossa, Lloret etc. Close to Barcelona for a day trip too.

Some great ideas here . Thank you all so much
@valder - yes I am tied to August (I’m a teacher ) so I know that makes a lot of places uncomfortably hot !
i will check out all those suggestions .
i am currently binge watching White Lotus and Heston carried away with the idea of a lovely picturesque hotel (minus the shenanigans! )

Lake in the mountains. Attersee or Traunsee

SallyDraperGetInHere · 02/03/2025 20:33

What’s your nearest airport, and where can you get to? You might find somewhere really different on skyscanner from your airport using the ‘anywhere’ function with direct flights only.

SallyDraperGetInHere · 02/03/2025 20:34

What about Sweden?

cockeyedoptimist · 02/03/2025 20:46

Gatwick or Heathrow are my nearest - so plenty of options.
will definitely check out Skyscanner ‘anywhere’ function
thank you
