Anyone been to Catalonia with children?

We are off to Catalonia in two weeks staying here www.vilarsrurals.com We are planning to visit Barcelona and the area and are looking for a couple of ideas for days out such as at the beach etc. Does anyone have any hints? Thank you so very much, ps children are twins aged 5 and baby just turned 1

Which one are you staying at? I only know the northern part, but if you're in that part, Girona is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous, if you want a day trip - medieval city, quite cool and shady too. Tossa del Mar is pretty with a nice beach and medieval bits but quite touristy, and there's Platja d'Aro just north of there which is a 'proper' resort with good beaches. There is a nice sandy beach at Sant Feliu de Guixols - pretty little town to wander around, beach is in the town centre and it's not just a tourist place so it's a bit quieter. In the high season there's a little train that runs from the seafront around the sights such as they are.

There's a big lake at (I think) Banyoles that you can take boats on and there are lots of little medieval towns up there - Besalu is one that's really pretty.

I should put in the disclaimer that I've only done the beachy bits with kids, though.

(If you're staying at the one south of Barcelona all that is a bit useless for you though!)

barcelona zoo is good for kids! i went there when i was a teenager and again a few years ago think the twins would love it

we go a lot, family there, and mine love the open topped buses and the harbour in barca
