Looking for recommendations for a special 40th birthday trip next spring. Will be me and DH, a 5 year old, 3 year old and 1 year old. Would like to avoid zika areas. Could be a trip of any length and any destination otherwise.

Any ideas? What would you do?

Budget?

What do you want, beach/activities kids clubs????

Villa/hotel/airbnb?

Happy to DIY flights etc or do you need a Travel Agent?

So many things....

Interested to hear what others would do in this scenario (with their budgets and their interests) as I am mainly looking for ideas

With kids those ages I would bring willing grandparents who are happy to babysit and help out along otherwise it isn’t going to be very relaxing! Failing that maybe a posh all inclusive somewhere like the canaries to avoid the long haul flights

For my 40th we are just having our usual family holiday. Just booked it to be over my birthday. So a week AI in Crete for me. Nothing too fancy but looking forward to just relaxing. My kids are coming but they’re 20 and 17 and great company. Can’t wait to just spend some time together.

We went to Baobab Suites in Tenerife and had one of the 2 bed apartments with private pool for my 40th. Youngest was just turned 3 at the time, I couldn't face long haul with a toddler!

Edited to say I would prob go to an Ikos now if it was in my budget!

For my husbands 40th we went to Indonesia with a 1 and a 3.5 year old. We did 4 or 5 days in Java visiting Borobudur and Prambanan and a week(ish) in Bali split between Ubud and Sanur. We had a really lovely time. We were flying from Sydney, so it was a bit nearer than it is from the UK. We didn't do a big trip for my 40th as we were on the verge of relocating to the UK and there was a lot of upheaval for us at the time. I'm planning Namibia for my 50th as my kids are a clearly quite a bit older now. Although Mexico and Costa Rica are high on my list too.
