So looking to go camping for 2/3 weeks in August in France I say camping we have a VW campervan so not in a tent.

Anyway getting the ferry across so looking for a campsite that's about 3 hours from port for a few days when we get there and then if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations for any other child friendly site. We have a 5 and 7 year old!

Trying to research is a minefield !!!! It's more I can't figure out best areas and how far from ferry port! Want to sort of work our way round.

Anyway advice any tips anything welcomed!!!

Have a look at Camping le Paradis in the Dordogne region. www.google.com/gasearch?q=camping%20le%20paradis%20dordogne&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5#ebo=0

Which port are you arriving in at?

I've not booked the port yet but either Calais or Dieppe ?

I always look at Eurocamp for ideas but book direct with the sites. This gives me an idea of popular areas and there’s English speaking kids on site for my DC to play with. You can search on map view and the site descriptions give distances from nearest ferry ports.

We got the overnight to St Malo last year and then went about 2 hours drive from there. St Malo was beautiful!

If you arrive at Dieppe, then Chateau lez Eaux is about 3 hrs. It's not too big and noisy, and has a great indoor pool complex with slides.

Les Paradis is the best campsite in France.

My favourite campsite!!! It's is just the best...

Les Alicourts is nice, near Orléans. Also Ty Nadan in Brittany but that's a long way west, we stopped for a night at Omaha Beach.

Moulin de Paulhiac in Dordogne is also lovely but it is almost exactly 8 hours from Calais, without stopping (our poor kids!)

Chateaux les eaux is nice.

I’ve just noticed that these campsites don’t actually do camping anymore, just mobile homes. Seems to be a bit of a trend across all of these campsites/eurocamps and somewhat annoying for those of us with campervans!!

OzGy · 03/03/2025 19:43

Don’t know about the other sites mentioned above but tents are very welcome at Le Paradis. We take ours every year

Yep! Keep saying we will try somewhere else and we just can’t!

If you are looking at Brittany then ty nadan is great but in the middle of countryside!! In Carnac, walking distance from beach/town we stayed at a lovely site Des Menuires...
If you can drive a couple of extra hours then the vendee is warmer, still not guaranteed but likely, our favourite there is les pin parasol, or if you can drive 8-9 hours head to the Dordogne, river swimming, canoeing, cute villages, and lots of great campsites!!

Another vote for Pin Parasol - we end up rebooking every year even though we think we should explore elsewhere!
