Recommendations for summer itinerary around Europe for 3 weeks (flying / inter railing)

I wondered if anyone could help with a suggested itinerary. My son is looking to go around around Europe with a friend after his A Levels 3 weeks to have some fun. Maybe interrailing. I think he wants to visit a few cities then and at some point catch up with friends in Zante for 3 or 4 days. Just wondered if any of you kids have done anything similar. Any recommendations for any routes would be really appreciated.

Have a look at Lonely Planet Flight Free Europe or Rough Guide to Europe on a budget

(Or even better get him to read them, if he’s old enough to travel he’s old enough to plan it!)

Kindly - I think he needs to work this out himself.

He will do, I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations that could pass on.

Check out the Flix bus routes. Cheaper than trains and often as quick. Routes - it depends entirely in where he wants to go but ime it’s better to make a decent route of places that you are happy to visit rather than trying to shoehorn in your “must visit” destinations into long, expensive and complicated routes. Zante is far - look at where flies there cheaply and make that the penultimate destination.

seat61.com website has ALL the info you could need. My dd won a travel "award" at uni and is doing a cinema related "grand-tour" after her finals. London - Paris - Lyon - Turin - Venice - Salzburg - Vienna - Prague - Berlin. The continuous one month passes are great value for under 26s. Sign up for hostel world - Eastern Europe much cheaper for accommodation and food than West. If he wants to go to Zante does he want to work his way to Athens? I would go down East Italian cost and get a ferry from Bari.

Seconding Interrail- there are youth discounts. The Interrail site itself has some suggested itineraries.
